Investigating a Bottom-up Approach for Extracting Ontologies from Urban Databases

چکیده
Ontologies, as “formal and explicit specifications of shared conceptualizations” [1] play a predominant role when developing information systems. This role is increasingly recognised by geo and urban experts when dealing with urban (geo) spatial information systems (GIS, SIS) and spatial databases (SDB). Generally speaking, they provide significant benefits for the design and use of geographic information, such as defining semantics independently of data representation [2]. Urban GIS and SDB are therefore a large source of urban “domain” ontologies [3],

Presenting a method for extracting structured domain-dependent information from Farsi Web pages
Extracting structured information about entities from web texts is an important task in web mining, natural language processing, and information extraction. Information extraction is useful in many applications including search engines, question-answering systems, recommender systems, machine translation, etc. An information extraction system aims to identify the entities from the text and extr...
متن کاملGrassroots Efforts in Contemporary Urban Mapping: An Analysis of Alternative Uses of Collaborative Platforms
Technologies have started to overlap new virtual communication and information layers on top of the urban physical territory, thus bringing along distinct possibilities of social organization. Regarding this phenomenon and intending to achieve improvement in a great variety of fields from Politics to Urban Planning, the terms of Smart or Digital Cities among others have been adopted, still with...
متن کاملBottom-up Integration of Ontologies in a Database Context
We describe a pragmatic approach to the creation of local ontologies for databases which must be integrated into multi-agent systems. Our approach avoids the introduction of an extra language, solely for modelling the required ontological information, by showing how to extend the expressiveness of a typical OODBMS data deenition language. In this paper, we outline the principle behind our appro...

متن کاملAn Unsupervised Approach for Acquiring Ontologies and RDF Data from Online Life Science Databases
In the Linked Open Data cloud one of the largest data sets, comprising of 2.5 billion triples, is derived from the Life Science domain. Yet this represents a small fraction of the total number of publicly available data sources on the Web. We briefly describe past attempts to transform specific Life Science sources from a plethora of open as well as proprietary formats into RDF data. In particu...
